Q1: What should I check before buying SODIMM memory?

A: Confirm your system’s memory type, maximum supported capacity, and slot configuration. You can find this information in the official specifications on the manufacturer’s support page.

Q2: Can I mix different memory modules?

A: Mixing modules from different manufacturers or with different CAS latency and density may cause improper initialization. For best results, use modules with the same part number, manufacturer, and model number.

Q3: Why does my system only show ~3.3 GB of memory when I installed 4 GB or more?

A: Some 32-bit operating systems have addressing limits. Even if your hardware supports ≥4 GB, the OS may only utilize about 3.3 GB.

Q4: How do I safely install new SODIMM memory?

A:

1. Power off the system and unplug the AC power.
2. Discharge static electricity with ESD protection.
3. Remove the original module by unlocking the latches and pulling it out at a 45° angle.
4. Insert the new SODIMM(s), align with the notch, and press down until secured.
5. Power on the system — the firmware will auto-detect the new memory without BIOS changes.

Q6: What should I do if my system doesn’t boot after installation?

A: Re-seat the modules and check that they are properly aligned in the slots. This often resolves boot issues.

Q7: Any additional tips for the best performance?

A: Always install SODIMMs in identical pairs (same capacity, speed, and specification) for stable operation and optimal performance.

Common reasons include:

1. Confirm whether your laptop has original memory installed. The original memory may be incompatible with the new memory (it is recommended to remove the old memory and install two new modules).

2. The gold contacts (gold fingers) on the memory modules may be dirty. Clean them gently with diluted alcohol.

3. The memory slot on the motherboard or the memory module itself may be defective. Please contact the maintenance center of your laptop’s original manufacturer for testing.

This issue may be caused by an outdated motherboard BIOS or by installing an incompatible or incorrect version of the RGB lighting control software. To resolve the problem, follow the steps below:

1. Visit the official website of your motherboard manufacturer and download the latest BIOS version that corresponds to your specific motherboard model. Update the BIOS accordingly.

2. Navigate to the “Driver and Tools” or “Download Center” section on the same website, and download the latest version of the RGB lighting control software that matches your motherboard model.

3. Right-click the installation file and select “Run as administrator” to install the software properly.

This product supports RGB lighting control software from the following four major motherboard manufacturers:

• ASUS: Armoury Crate (Aura Sync)

• MSI: MSI Center (Mystic Light)

• Gigabyte: RGB Fusion

• ASRock: Polychrome SYNC

Some older motherboards do not support newer memory modules, so the system is unable to detect the actual memory capacity.

CAS latency 2 processes data one clock cycle faster than CAS latency 3, making it the better option. (Lower values indicate faster performance.)

This is normal so please do not worry. Diagnostic tools or the BIOS usually display the Base Clock of the memory and not the actual data transmission speed.
DDR (Double Data Rate) technology is adopted for the memory module, which means that data is transferred twice per clock cycle. Therefore, the actual operating frequency of the memory is twice the bus frequency displayed.

For example:
If CPU-Z displays 1600 MHz, then the actual memory frequency is DDR4-3200.
If it displays 2400 MHz, it means that the memory is operating at the speed of DDR5-4800.
This is a normal feature of DDR memory design; it does not mean the memory is abnormal in any way.

XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) is a preset memory overclock configuration file developed by Intel. Users can enable XMP in BIOS to let the system apply the verified memory overclock parameters automatically to improve performance, without the need of manual adjustment of complicated settings.
Similarly, DOCP (Direct Over Clock Profile) & EXPO (Extended Profiles for Overclocking) are overclock technologies released by AMD, which functions similarly to XMP, but were designed exclusively for AMD platforms. By enabling EXPO is BIOS, users can easily enable the optimal performance settings of the memory.

To ensure stable operation of overclocked memory, it is recommended to perform basic functionality tests by following the steps below:

1. Update the motherboard BIOS to the latest version:
   Please go to the official website of the motherboard manufacturer to download and update to the latest BIOS, to ensure that the system supports the latest memory parameters.
2. Install the memory module:
   Install the memory on the motherboard properly, and ensure that the slots are fully secured.
3. Enable memory overclock settings:
   Go into BIOS and enable the corresponding overclock profile (such as: XMP, EXPO, DOCP or A-XMP) to apply the preset overclock parameters.
4. Run memory stability tests:
   Use the free tool Memtest86+ (download URL: http://www.memtest.org/) to perform complete testing on the memory to confirm its stability.
5. Test with a single module first and then perform dual-channel verification:
   It is recommended to perform testing with a single memory module (1pcs) first to confirm its stability, and then test again with dual-channel mode (2pcs) to ensure good stability when using multiple modules together.

Follow these steps to configure DRAM overclocking settings:

1. Confirm platform compatibility
   Ensure that your CPU, motherboard, and memory all support overclocking features.

2. For Intel platforms
   Enter the BIOS and enable XMP (Extreme Memory Profile).

3. For AMD platforms
   Enter the BIOS and enable the corresponding memory overclocking option, such as EXPO, DOCP, or AMP.

Make sure to select the appropriate overclocking option based on your motherboard model. This will automatically apply the optimal memory parameters for stable and high-performance operation.

It is not recommended to mix overclocked memory modules with different specifications.

Doing so may lead to reduced performance and decreased system stability. To maintain stable operation, the motherboard will automatically detect the memory module with the lowest frequency and apply its frequency and timing parameters as the system default. As a result, higher-spec modules will not be able to operate at their full potential.

When four memory modules (2DPC, Dual DIMM Per Channel) are inserted simultaneously, the memory overclocking stability may be limited by the design of the motherboard and the capability of the memory controller. Compared to dual-channel, the signal integrity decreases when all slots are full, and it is difficult for the BIOS to maintain high-frequency operations. It is recommended to use higher specification modules to ensure system stability.

For example: If the target frequency is 6000MT/s, it is recommended to purchase 6400MT/s or higher frequency memories to increase the chance of achieving stable rated frequency when all slots are full.
In addition, currently most QVLs (Qualified Vendors List) of motherboard manufacturers have not yet performed verification tests for configurations with all 4 DIMM slots fully inserted, therefore, complete four-channel compatibility lists could not be obtained from their official websites.

Recommendation: If you need to fill all memory slots with high-frequency memory modules, make sure that the motherboard used and its BIOS version have sufficient support capabilities and adjust the frequency and timing parameters appropriately to ensure stable operation of the system.

QVL (Qualified Vendor List) refers to a list of compatible memory modules that have been tested and certified by the motherboard manufacturer for specific models. Products included in the QVL have passed compatibility verification and are capable of ensuring stable operation and optimal performance.

Before purchasing memory modules, it is recommended that users review the specifications and supported features of their motherboard. To confirm compatibility and supported frequencies, users should check the QVL list available on the motherboard manufacturer's official website.

The QVL (Qualified Vendor List) is provided by the manufacturer of the motherboard or system, and lists the memory modules that have their compatibilities actually tested and verified. The QVL mainly serves as a compatibility reference for components that were tested before they were launched on the market.
However, the memories sold by Apacer were all manufactured in compliance with the JEDEC international standard. Even if they are not listed in the QVL list, the products can still operate stably in most mainstream systems.
In addition, the QVL list usually only reflects the test results at the time the product was launched. If the BIOS or UEFI were updated with increased compatibility later, newer generation modules (such as higher capacity or higher frequency) may not yet be included in the updated QVL. Therefore, not being listed in the QVL does not mean they are not compatible.
