Executive Summary

The client manufactures rugged servers and workstations for mission-critical and industrial applications. They approached Apacer seeking a SATA form factor SSD with FIPS 140-2 validation that could also withstand challenging environmental conditions. Apacer provided the ideal solution—the SV240-25. The client was delighted and decided to collaborate with Apacer on this project as well as future opportunities.

Challenges

The client is a manufacturer of computer hardware primarily used in mission-critical applications. Their products are designed to endure drastic temperature fluctuations, shocks, vibrations, and airborne particulate matter, emphasizing durability as a key focus for operation in such challenging environments. Due to the unique product specifications, the client requires a SATA form factor SSD, which is not readily available from most suppliers.

In addition, the project requires the supplier to provide a SATA SSD with FIPS 140-2 validation, which the current supplier cannot fulfill. FIPS 140-2 is a U.S. government security standard mandatory for many mission-critical applications. While many manufacturers claim to be FIPS 140-2 compliant, they often lack official validation.

Solutions & Technologies

Apacer has extensive experience in customizing products; therefore, its product line already includes a SATA form factor SSD. Based on the client’s requirements, the sales representative recommended the SV240-25, a SATA SSD with FIPS 140-2 validation.

The SV240-25 is equipped with 256-bit AES encryption, a security feature highly valued by defense buyers. It also features end-to-end data protection for enhanced data integrity and an LDPC (Low-Density Parity Check) ECC engine to improve endurance and reliability. After evaluating various options, the client selected the 480GB and 2TB versions of the SV240-25.

Benefits

  • 256-bit Encryption and ECC Engine: delivering greater security, extended endurance, and improved reliability
  • The client was pleased by Apacer’s professional suggestions and choose the perfect product to complete design progress.

Once the client had selected these two capacity options for their ruggedized server, they requested more information on other available form factors for a future project they are considering. Apacer is looking forward to a long and productive relationship with this satisfied client.
